Hello, and Welcome to Sarah Reaburn Midwifery and Lactation Consulting Services.
Sarah Pitsiulala Reaburn
RM, RN, IBCLC
Mom | Aunty | Midwife | Registered Nurse | Lactation Consultant
Where I come from…
My name is Sarah Pitsiulala Reaburn, and I am of Celtic and Slavic ancestry. I’ve been nursing in emergency, rural, remote, and labour & delivery settings since 2010.
During my time as a labour and delivery nurse, I met so many inspiring professionals and saw firsthand the profound difference that well-integrated, evidence-based midwifery care can make. This experience led me to return to Toronto Metropolitan University, where I completed my Bachelor of Midwifery (Honours).
I had the privilege of working at the Strathcona Midwifery Collective on the Red and Huckleberry Teams before my family and I fell in love with Port Alberni, where we’ve been since 2022. Here, I’ve continued to work as both a midwife and a labour & delivery nurse.
In 2023, I welcomed my son, Pete. Experiencing the joys and challenges of feeding a baby inspired me to pursue certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and expand my ability to support families through feeding journeys.
My philosophy and approach…
I believe deeply in informed consent, client choice, and body sovereignty. Pregnancy and birth can be transformative rites of passage for individuals, families, and communities — and for some, they are also deeply medical experiences deserving of respect and compassion. For most people, it’s a mix of both.
I’ve seen how much difference a supported pregnancy and postpartum experience can make. I remain in awe of the unique ways families come together, and comforted by how creating family connects us all. The world is sweeter when families are supported in the profound work of welcoming and nurturing children.
My approach is family-centered, strengths-based, and inclusive. I bring some Spanish and French, and I’m dedicated to a continual practice of anti-racism and cultural humility. My care is LGBTQ2SI-honoring, and I maintain a broad network of colleagues to refer to if we need additional perspectives or resources.
I look forward to being part of your network of care.
Warmly,
Sarah Pitsiulala Reaburn, RM, RN, IBCLC
